Patient CareStudents participating in the Patient Care Pathway will be prepared with the concepts and skills needed toward becoming competent and productive health care workers. Within this pathway, students learn to translate real-life situations into a caring, confidential, and safe medical environment.  Starting with building background knowledge into medical careers and medical terminology, students will be able to choose their course of studies of progressing towards sports medicine or generalized healthcare, each with specialized internship opportunities.
 
Health Careers pathway is our region’s fastest-growing employment sector. Skills acquired in these courses can be applied to the general health careers or sports medicine, depending on the student’s choice of course sequence and internship placement.  Courses offer dual enrollment opportunities through Sierra College, fundamental certifications, such as CPR and First Aide, with the culminating experience including on and off-campus internships.
 
Sample occupations associated with this pathway: Nurse, Medical or Nurse’s Assistants, Physician, Radiologist

Introductory course designed to provide students the necessary foundational technical skills of Health Sciences and integrated subject matter in science, mathematics, and English/language arts required to move to advanced curriculum and content in Health Science and Medical Technology. Students have the opportunity to experience a variety of options leading to the broad career selection of a specific pathway within Health Science and Medical Technology. Students will be introduced to the requirements of working in patient care careers, understanding all aspects of the interactions and responsibilities in working with people in diagnostic and therapeutic areas of health care. The course will incorporate a dual enrollment offering - Sierra College’s ALH 20, which aligns with the career exploration portion of the course.
